(I) General
1. General analysis on number of Chinese employee dispatched abroad
In 2006, China’s export of labor services grew considerably. In the year China dispatched a total of 351,000 persons of all types (including labor service providers in overseas project contracting, labor service cooperation and consulting and designing services with foreign countries and regions), or 77,000 persons more than in 2005; by the end of December there were 675,000 persons employed overseas, increased by 111,000 persons over the same period in 2005. By the end of 2006, the accumulated number of Chinese employees dispatched abroad was 3,820,000.
2. General analysis on turnover
By the end of 2006, the turnovers from China’s labor service cooperation and consulting and designing services with foreign countries and regions reached USD 41 billion and USD 1.73 billion respectively. Of which, the turnover for 2005 from China’s labor service cooperation with foreign countries and regions amounted to USD 5.37 billion, a 11.9% rise over 2005, and that from overseas designing and consulting services USD 330 million, up 45.4%.
(II) By country/region
1. Analysis on number of labor service personnel dispatched abroad by country/region
In 2006, China’s labor services were mainly directed to Asia, to which 243,000 persons were dispatched, accounting for 69.2% of the total labor service personnel dispatched in the year. By the end of 206, 497,000 persons working overseas were in Asia, accounting for 73.6% of the total, a slight increase from 2005. According to statistics by country/region, in 2006 Chinese employees of all types dispatched abroad were mostly in Japan, Singapore, Macao, Russia and Hong Kong, with the numbers being 65,000, 31,000, 24,000, 23,000 and 20,000 respectively. By the end of 2006, Chinese employees of all types dispatched abroad were mostly in Japan, Singapore, ROK, Macao and Algeria, with the numbers being 143,000, 85,000, 59,000, 38,000 and 29,000 persons respectively, together accounting for 52.4% of the total.
2. Analysis on turnover by country/region
In 2006, the total turnover from China’s labor service cooperation and designing and consulting services with other countries and regions was USD 5.7 billion, up 13.8% over 2005. In terms of the contributing countries/regions, in 2006 China’s labor and designing and consulting services were mainly exported to Japan, Singapore, ROK, Macao and Hong Kong, with the contributions being USD 1.39 billion, USD 420 million, USD 330 million, USD 260 million and USD 220 million respectively, together accounting for 45.9% of the total.
(III) Analysis by sectors
By the end of 2006, labor service personnel dispatched abroad were mainly employed in sectors like manufacturing, construction, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery and transportation, with the numbers being 229,000, 228,000, 78,000 and 57,000 persons respectively, together accounting for 87.9% of Chinese persons employed overseas.
(IV) Analysis by province/municipality
1. Analysis on number of labor service personnel dispatched abroad by province/municipality
In 2006, of Chinese employees dispatched abroad by central and local enterprises, those dispatched by central enterprises ranked No.1 and numbered 67,900, accounting for 19.3% of Chinese employees dispatched abroad in the year. Next to it was Jiangsu, with the number being 47,900, accounting for 13.6% of the total. Shangdong took the third position, with the number being 41,400, accounting for 11.8% of the total. Other provinces all had a share of less than 10%. Of the number of persons employed overseas by the end of 2006, Jiangsu was in the first place for the number of 112,400, accounting for 16.7% of persons employed overseas by the end of the year. Central enterprises and shangdong took the second and third positions respectively, with the numbers being 97,600 and 84,000 respectively, accounting for 14.5% and 12.4% of persons employed overseas by the end of the year respectively.
2. Analysis on turnover by province/municipality
Of the turnover from labor service cooperation, designing and consulting services completed by central and local enterprises with other countries, in 2006 central enterprises ranked No. 1 for its turnover of USD 1.606 billion, or 28.2% of the total turnover completed in the year. Shangdong and Jiangsu took the second and third positions respectively for their turnovers of USD 814 million and USD 589 million, or 14.3% AND 10.3% of the total respectively.
